This week on Get Canceled, Sheryl and her guest discuss the latest trend of "going no contact". We all know that families are complicated and dysfunction can run rampant; however, severing all contact with family seems more like cutting off one's nose to spite one's face. While in extreme cases such as abuse, this might be necessary but for the average Zoomer and their lack of emotional resilience, the general frustrations surrounding family interaction are more than they can bear. Instead of setting boundaries, they are blocking numbers and cutting ties. But why is this happening? First, look no further than the deterioration of the nuclear family. Family is the ultimate ride or die, and having that foundation is critical. We now live in a culture that dismisses the nuclear family in favor of broken homes and single parents. And while there is nothing inherently wrong with the latter, it is not ideal nor is it easy. To take away one's family is to leave them with no support system. When shit hits the fan, which it inevitably will, they have no one to fall back on. Second, we have created a generation that is emotionally weak while simultaneously hyperfocusing on mental health. This has left individuals incapable of tolerating any slight distress, which now includes family. Starting to see a pattern here? Sheryl and her guest get into all this and more on todays episode.
